He said his only criteria to sign a film, was to make a film which he himself would like to watch.
“Now you can call it bakwas (rubbish) cinema or whatever but that is the kind of cinema I have seen. As a kid I have gone to theatres, stood on the chairs and whistled for the heroes and today since I am in a position to do that, I want to give my fans that quality. The movie should be such that if the hero has fallen down, the audience should feel the urge to yell, ‘Get up’. The feeling should be such that you come out of the theatre and you want to be that hero. I have gone through the experience and I still go through the experience. When I see a good film, whether it is action or romance, I want to be that man. I want to be that son, that boyfriend, that war hero. And that effect stays with me for the longest time. Of course, having said that, I also want to make sure that my films do well! I just don’t want my films to flop, because that means my thinking is going wrong and that would be the worst thing.”
But not everything he invests his time and thought in, would go on to be a success, right?
“Sometimes you have the utmost faith in a film and you think it will work. In this film I’m enjoying every promotion and interview because I actually like the film. Every time I see the rushes it gives me a sense of wanting to be that character. History has it, that the most favourite film of the actor hasn’t worked, so I have that that fear too and that’s the worst thing for an actor – to doubt what works.”
He concluded saying,
“I hope this doesn’t happen with this film because I really like ‘Jai Ho’. This film has a lot of action, comedy, romance etc. and yet is not in the same format as the earlier films.”
