reported that Shah Rukh Khan’s next, Raees was being readied for an Eid
release — generally considered to be a Salman Khan stronghold — in
2015.
Ritesh Sidhwani, producer of SRK’s film, had even confirmed the news, saying, "Yes, that’s what (Eid release) we are working towards."
But now there seems to be a twist in the tale. Salman’s yet-untitled next is also slated to release on the same Eid weekend. And the makers are in no mood to budge despite SRK’s film being scheduled to hit theatres at the same time.
"We had decided in October (last year) itself to release our film on Eid. So, our film is definitely hitting theatres on that day," says director Kabir Khan, who will start shooting the movie in November this year.
So, is he surprised about the SRK-starrer also readying for an Eid outing?
"See, no one really wants a clash. They mustn’t be aware (of our plans). However, it (the news about the Salman-starrer releasing on Eid) had appeared in a trade magazine in November itself. But maybe, not everyone was aware because we didn’t make a big announcement," adds Kabir.
Sidhwani, however, remained unavailable for comment on the clash.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh feels that the prospect of two big-budget films, each starring two superstars, releasing on the same weekend seems highly unlikely.
So the big question is — who will blink first, especially since two big superstars are involved. "I am sure one of them (movies) will move. Such a clash isn’t healthy for the film industry. The business for both the films will be affected badly," he says.
Last year, Shah Rukh had captured the Eid weekend and delivered a hit with Chennai Express. This year though, Salman has again booked the Eid weekend with Sajid Nadiadwala’s Kick.
