Indore based singer Palak Muchhal, has already become a sensation in the Bollywood industry for her super hit songs like Lapataa in Ek Tha Tiger, Chahu Main Ya Na and Meri Aashiqui in Aashiqui2, Photocopy in Jai Ho, Piya Ke Bazaar Me from Humshakals and many more. She is most excited about her upcoming song in Salman Khan's movie Kick and her association with Salman Khan is not new as she considers him as her mentor. TOI chatted with Palak and she spoke about her old memories in Indore, her dreams and about her passion for singing.
What are the memories of Indore? I've several fond memories of Indore. I was born and have spent some amazing years in Indore. I've been singing since my childhood and have got tremendous encouragement from the people of Indore. I can never forget the day when I started my mission of helping poor children suffering from heart patients in Indore and the kind of support I got from the people of Indore meant a lot to me. It's because of their blessings that I've been able to raise 2.36 Crores for the operation of 624 kids.
Having shifted to Mumbai does she miss Indore? It's been eight years since I've been living in Mumbai with my family. Of course, I do miss Indore. And specially Pohe Jalebi, Garadu, Kachori and Samose. Although I am not a foodie but I miss having Rabdi at Sarafa
How often does she visit Indore? I visit there at least once in two months. I've so many relatives there. Every time I reach Indore, I find that special magic in the air.. That special wala "Apnapan"
Has it been easy for her to get an entry in Bollywood? I feel that I've been lucky. When I was shifting to Mumbai with my family we thought that we will have to do a lot of struggle. But I was fortunate to have met Salman Khan sir. That was the first thing which I did after coming to Mumbai. From that day, my journey was quite smooth as Salman Sir gave me my first big song in his movie Ek Tha Tiger. Then Aashiqui 2 happened to me and after that I've recorded 136 Bollywood songs.
Has Salman played a Godfather role to get her entry in Bollywood movies? Yes I consider Salman Sir as one of the biggest blessings in my life. His support and blessings have always been with me. And I think had Salman sir not been there, my journey would not have been so smooth. He is a gem of a person. Because of him I got to sing Lapataa in Ek Tha Tiger, Photocopy in Jai Ho and now Jumme Ki Raat in Kick.
How does she feel about artists from small town making it big in Bollywood? It feels great!! I think this is the best time for anyone to make an entry into Bollywood as anyone who has talent is getting work here. You just need to be hard working and focused.
