Salman Khan, a trend-setter in many ways, has today taken the 'Rs 100 crore club' concept to a whole new level. The coveted, yet unofficial 'club' per say, is the league of films that made more than Rs 100 crores, regardless of its making cost.
Many actors so far are included in the list: Aamir Khan for 'Ghajini' and '3 Idiots', Shah Rukh Khan for 'Ra.One' and 'Don 2', Ajay Devgn for 'Golmaal 3' and 'Singham', and of course, Salman Khan.
But what's 'kicking' for Salman, apart from the Rs 100 crore mark, is that he's the only Bollywood star to have his SEVEN films earn more than Rs 100 crores IN A ROW.
Mind = Blown
Salman first entered the club four years ago, with his cult film 'Dabangg'. Directed by Abhinav Kashyap and produced by Arbaaz Khan under the Arbaaz Khan Productions, the film made over Rs 143 crores. His next films 'Ready' (2011) and 'Bodyguard' (2011) crossed the Rs 100 crore mark with net collections of Rs 122 crore and Rs 145 crore respectively.
His next film 'Ek Tha Tiger' earned over where Salman played a spy, opposite Katrina Kaif, was followed by 'Dabangg 2', where he thrilled the audience once again, as inspector Chulbul Pandey. According to media reports, these films made Rs 310 crore and Rs 251 crore, respectively.
His more recent hit 'Jai Ho', even if it was panned by the critics, made over Rs 126 crore.
This was followed by 'Kick' which joined the Rs 100 crore club today, on Eid.
What is it that makes Salman Khan's films so wildly popular with the audiences? Is it the action, the drama, the songs, or the undying devotion of his loyal fans?
We bet it's the 'bhai' effect.
